Intermittent Problem - Connection drops out
I had a WinXP system for the past 3 years with an Optus Dlink 302G DSL modem....it worked like a charm, connected to my USB port.
I recently upgraded to an HP system with Vista Home Premium in it. The system comes with a Realtek 8110E Ethernet adaptor. The modem would not work with Vista, I could not get the auto configuration cd to work, and had to get Optus to manually configure the modem. The modem is plugged into my ethernet adaptor (via ethernet cable, of course). Connection was up and running but I noticed that connection drops out quite frequently. I hear a loud "click" and although the modem still has 4 lights showing conenction, when I go to Networks in Vista, it shows I am not connected, and I have to reset the Ethernet adaptor to get connection again. This happens about 5 or 6 times in a 2 hour period, it is very frustrating!! I went to the Realtek website and got the 2 available downloads for Vista, but still nothing! Am starting to wonder if the manual settings for the modem are conflicting with the Ethernet adaptor. Has anyone found this problem? Anyt help would be greatly appreciated. |
