my Internet connection is down after uninstalling Symantec antivirius 10 on my other HP laptop. Both Network Adapters are working properly according to the Device Manager.

That IP address looks wrong to me, its a peer-to-peer temporary address ie for doing laptop-to-laptop transfers ie without an accesspoint, its not aquiring an address from your routers DHCP as this would look like 192.168.1.x etc
Have you got your wireless card set up for peer mode rather than AccessPoint ?

Maybe uninstall the wireless card from add/remove hardware and reboot then windows should find the hardware and install the drivers automatically... But only do this if you are sure you know what youre doing, I dont want to make your machine worse lol

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows Vista.

Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

thanks Johnwill but it didn't seem to solve the problem I ran the commands as administrator and they ran fine, each telling me that I need to re-boot. I re-booted after running them, but i still can't connect to the internet, despite my machine saying it is connected to the router.

I'm thinking of re-installing Windows. Will that solve this? Is there anything short of that to do?

I'd start by uninstalling the Norton junk! It stopped working when you installed it, so it sure seems like the top suspect.
