[SOLVED] Router won't connect :(

Alright I'm not sure what bits of information will be helpful and what won't, so I'll just give you everything I know.

My router is a Westell Versalink Model 327W
I've got Verizon DSL, with 2 computers connected directly to the router by ethernet cables and 2 laptops, one from a few years ago connected wirelessly and 1 new one that won't connect.

The one that won't connect is a Dell Inspiron 1520, and I had called Dell and we figured out that it's the router with the problem, not the laptop.
-The dell recognizes that my network is there at full strength, but won't connect(It's got a WEP, but I know what that password is, so it's not that either)
-Occasionally I connect to my neighbors unprotected wireless, so I know that my laptop CAN connect wirelessly. The signal is extremely weak though so I can't just leech off of theirs :(
-I am able to connect to my network directly using an ethernet cable

If theres any other things you need to know, ask and I'll find them out.

Thanks for any help

Re: Router won't connect :(

Whoops, forgot about this.

I ended up calling my ISP(verizon), and talked with the guy who fixed it by updating my router.

For some reason it was outdated, and a simple update(of course, after 2-3 hours of talking through the phone only half-understanding what he said and trying simpler ways such as making sure I knew the WEP key and everything else I had already tried) fixed it.

Re: Router won't connect :(

Many routers need to have their firmware upgraded. The best way to do that is to contact the router company support desk. They will offer simple instrustions. Each router is different. I am familure with wireless routers from CradlePoint and Kyocera. These work with the wireless modem cards offered by cell carriers. If you need information on these, I can help.

Re: Router won't connect :(

I went to the router company's web site and they said this router was made specifically for Verizon and I would have to call them. I called and got a big surprise. The tech (located in India, I asked) spoke perfect English and understood the issue immediately. He downloaded firmware into my router and all was fixed. He said the router was just as good as any new one's (was going to upgrade) it just wasn't Vista ready. I suspect that will be an issue with many older routers as more and more folks move to Vista.
