Sudden and random disconnecting.

Okay, to start off with, I'll let you know how our Internet is set up. I live in an apartment complex that has a set Internet service provider. As such, we have no access to any sort of router that they use.

Now, what happens with my connection is that it'll "blink out" for a split second. It's just long enough that any downloads [or buffering that I'm doing] will fail. Downloads with Firefox or IE will say: "The download could not be complete." Any P2P programs I have will randomly disconnect, then reconnect. If I'm trying to buffer a video online [such as YouTube], the buffering will freeze, and I'll have to reload the video again. This generally results in me being unable to ever successfully load anything over 5 minutes due to the fact that it'll disconnect before 5 minutes has passed. While loading pictures online, the picture will often blink out before fully loading. I can easily just reload the picture again, but it's starting to become a minor annoyance.

Ping tests generally result in showing 1%-to-0% packet loss of any kind. However, any port tests that I run show that every detectable port is closed or stealthed.

Basically, I'm trying to figure out if there's something wrong with my computer's Internet configuration, or if it an issue with my ISP's router. I've called them multiple times and complained, but they just tell me that it has nothing to do with them [even though I found out that one of my P2P sites was, and still is, suspiciously 'unavailable' today].

I did a DSL Reports test earlier, and this is what came back:

I've also made sure to scan my computer for trojans or any spyware, but there appears to be none.

Oh yeah, and I've also done that patch to Service Pack 2 that increases your something-something to 100 instead of 10. It's apparently bad news for P2P programs without the patch.

I have the exact same problem. Let me take a random stab and say that you have a Motorola SURFboard SB5120 cable modem.

Do you have DSL or cable internet? I just now realized that you didn't say that you have cable. If you have DSL my problem has nothing to do with yours (at least as far as I know). = /

If you have cable try typing "http://192.168.100.1" into your browser. That'll tell you the information on your modem. (assuming you have a motorola)

I'll post here Tuesday when I get my new modem to share the results.
