Antivirus update connection(no ping either)

Here is the situation:
I have a DSL connection going to a Linksys wireless WRT54G. The main computer is wired to port 1, the laptop is wireless. All firewalls are turned off. From the main computer I can browse the internet and check email, but my Antivirus (avg & Avira) wouldn't connect to the internet for updates. I tried ping, nslookup, tracert from the main computer and none of them worked (request timed out). Everything works fine from the laptop.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Antivirus update connection(no ping either)

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I'd also like to see this.

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

IPCONFIG

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING 216.109.112.135

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Antivirus update connection(no ping either)

Just to recap.
My Setup; Linksys wireless router (WRT54G), Main computer wired to router, laptop wireless. Both running XP pro.
I can use web browser and email client.
I can not use any auto updates or anything that accesses a server (Antivirus update, wireless setup cd when it checks the internet)
I can not ping(or nslookup, tracert) anything outside my computer(Request timeout).
I can ping from within router and from laptop.
I have to Ethernet nics and have tried them both. (still no go)
I have tried direct connection to dsl modem. (still no go)
I can ping 127.0.0.1 so TCP/IP must be working.
I have no firewalls on the computer and the one in the router is disabled.
I only have AVG antivirus running.
I have unistalled and reinstalled both nics. (no luck)

Re: Antivirus update connection(no ping either)

You appear to have a firewall configuration issue. I can't think of any other reason you can't PING the default gateway of a standard router.

Re: Antivirus update connection(no ping either)

I apologize JohnWill. Many months ago I had Comodo pro installed on the computer. I had shut it down and disabled the service and subsequently forgot about it. This problem didn't occur until I uninstalled AVG 7.5 (which was installed before comodo) and installed AVG 8.0. Nothing was showing up in the task list. Well I ran Hijack and saw something that I thought was comodo. I uninstalled it and everything is good. I was really beating my head on this one. And I keep checking the firewall in the router and the windows firewall to make sure it wasn't on, the whole time forgeting about comodo. Anyhow I really appreciate your time and effort. I hope I can contribute back to the forums.
