Really Slow internet through ethernet

Hi,

I'm having problems with my computer. I connect to my router through an ethernet cable, but the internet is really really slow. I just get sick of it.

There is 3 other desktops that connect to the router, and they work fine, no problem, but my computer started getting really slow last summer sometime. I have a 2 meg BT connection.

I have a Compaq Presario S5160UK running Windows XP.

Any help would be gratefully accepted.

Let's see an Internet speed test for your computer and another one on the network. Make sure nothing else is running when you run the test.

A couple of popular Internet speed test sites in the US.

Speakeasy Speed Test

DSLReports Speed Test

The speed test takes too long. I went on www.speedtest.net and used the recommended server and it took hours just to do the ping.

Also, I have used another computer and a laptop on the same ethernet cable and they work fine, so its got to be my computer.
