Here's my story so far. I was with AOL for 3 years straight. All of a sudden 9 weeks ago my Internet just clicked out for some reason. So, I rang AOL up and they said they will get back to me.
In the meantime I came on here to see if some kind soul could help me fix my problem. That kind soul was in the form of johnwills who talked me through step by step what to do and in the end, came to the conclusion that my ISP was the problem. AOL never got to back to me so I phoned up to cancel. After 5 attempts to cancel (yes 5!, there was no record of me ever canceling apparently, on 5 different occasions) I decided to join a new ISP to solve this problem. In the end I join tiscali and got a free wireless router through which arrived yesterday and I've got an email saying I'm connected and everything. Guess what? I still can't connect. I get error 678 when I try to connect. I phoned them up and they said it's the PC, which it isn't since I brought a mates laptop round and set it up on there but the exact same thing happens. I've replaced ALL cables but still doesnt work. I've got all my ping results here: Ping IP address: Reply from 192.168.1.3: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128 Packet loss = 0% Ping default gateway: Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64 Packet loss = 0% Ping 216.109.112.135: ![]() Ping yahoo.com: ![]() ![]() Im currently posting this up round a friends house if your wondering how im putting this up. Any help would be very much appreciated. cheers. I'm currently in the process of doing my GCSE's and badly need the Internet for revision. I can't keep going round my friends house. Again cheers x |

Re: Nine weeks without Internet now. Assistance anyone? Cheers.
MaxCH,
Are you using AOL Broadband or dial-up? What type of modem/router (make/model) do you have? Where are you located? Sounds like you need to DUMP AOL! Are there other ISPs in your area? Let me know. - John |

I canceled AOL and am now with tiscali broadand but have the same problem. It dosn't matter about the router since I own 6 of them and the same thing happens with each one and am located in the UK, Dorset. PS AOL is ****! Cheers

Re: Nine weeks without Internet now. Assistance anyone? Cheers.
You didn't say how you were connecting to the router... Presumably wireless?
Try putting the 192.168.1.1 in your web browser and see if you can get your routers setup/login/config page... if you're getting this working id say the problem is something like DNS or your authentication details/modem mode for tiscali in the router are incorrect. You need to do a ping and see if it does a dns lookup ie ping www.bbc.co.uk does it resolve this to an IP number or does it say an error message? I realise it was March in your last post but hey you might still be offline or moved into your mates house just for the internet lol |
