Error 680 - No Dial Tone - Help!

Gives Error 680 when I try to connect laptop to Internet via dialup connection. Have checked from several different locations/phone lines. Always get same message. Have run all of the obvious diagnostics. Desperate for help!

Have you tried another phone cable from modem to wall socket? there's various wiring types so it could be the wrong pair of wires in the cable you have mismatching the actual modem socket connections.

Sounds like your modem may have died. The most common failure is the relay that takes the line off-hook. When you attempt to dial, does the modem actually connect to the phone line? Listen on an extension and see if you hear the modem actually try to pick up the phone.
