Re: Almost too slow internet..dunno what's the problem

Gravity__,

The latency on those pings are bad. Has this always been a problem with your DSL service or is this something new? Are you running any kind of P2P filesharing software, server software or other bandwidth intensive applications on any of the PCs on your network?

Who is your DSL provider? What is the "package" you've subscribed to (i.e. speed)? What is the make/model of your DSL modem? Is there any USB connections involved with the cable modem and/or router? What is the make/model of your 3com Router? Is that router wireless? If so, how many of the the PCs are connecting wirelessly?

Sorry for all the questions - but we need to get a better understanding of your environment and a history of this problem and when it started.

Please reply and someone here should be able to help.

- John

Re: Almost too slow internet..dunno what's the problem

Gravity__,

Fourteen PC's is quite a lot for a 1024 DSL connection. As long as there's not too much activity on all of those PCs at the same time, it might be acceptable - but that's not a lot of bandwidth to share with 14 PCs. Does anyone on this network run P2P software, FTP server, HTTP server, DB server or some other bandwidth intensive application?

I'm assuming your Router doesn't have 14 ports. That said - how are they connected to the network - via a hub or via a switch? I would recommend a switch rather than a hub.

You can selectively disconnect PCs from your network and test the speed with a lesser load to see how the Internet connection performs. Also make sure your PCs are all configured with the correct link speed and duplex settings.

Hope this helps.

Re: Almost too slow internet..dunno what's the problem

i think all this are contained in this issues
but the biggest part
i think it's from the DSL provider
because i tried the services on just one pc
and it's too slow to
and the router gives high numbers in the ping once i restart it , the numbers getin down
p.s : we use switch's , the are about 4 switch's and there is already 4 ports in the router itself
put at all can you help me in the duplication with the router ip
the net suddenly became heavier , i open any network software to discover how many PCs online
suddenly i find 2 gateways with the same ip
how come that

Thanks at all John

Regards

Re: Almost too slow internet..dunno what's the problem

Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.

The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like:

If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different!
and your IP will be disguised.

Copy/paste that link here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

Please review the Tech Support Forum Rules & Conduct, and you'll see we provide no support for P2P applications here at TSF. You're on your own with P2P conflicts.
