Question Questions About Modems/Internet

I currently have Dial Up and i can not stand it. I called up Road Runner today and asked for a quote, and I was quite satisfied. Before I do any commitments or dumb decisions, I have a few questions.

I have a computer in one room, a computer in another room, and a computer upstairs.

Do I need a Modem for all three computers [to share one IP address] or can all three run of one?

Could I just purchase a Wireless Modem and have all three run off of that?

What problems would I run into if all three were sharing one modem?

Somewhere it stated I would need a router. Would I need two routers or just one?

Would those router[s] need to be connected from one computer to another? Like, how would I connect the upstairs and the downstairs to one router/modem [whatever].

Is there a certain modem I would have to buy? Like special coding or whatever.

Sorry for all the questions, but I really don't know much about internet connections!!

Re: Questions About Modems/Internet

You need a wireless router. If you purchase a "wireless modem", it's a modem/router, there is no such thing as a plain wireless modem.

What does Road Runner supply as their standard modem for the broadband connection? Many ISP's provide a wireless router nowadays, so you may not need anything on that end.

One router will do it, and you can connect as many machines as you like to it. Wired is easier to get working, but wireless is more practical for computers that would be difficult to wire to the router/model location.
