complete novice vista/router/ TP-Link 54m/108m problem
Hi, I wonder if anybody can help. Firstly, my knowledge of technical computer things is limited… but then I asked the IT guy at work and he didn’t know either.
I have a new PC operating with windows vista and want to connect to the internet. My current modem (speedtouch 330) I have been told by the pipex help desk is incompatible with vista. I am located in the UK. Broadband with pipex I have a TP-Link 54m/108m wireless router, plus Dell computer, Inspiron 530 E4500 Core 2 Duo Processor 2.20GHz, operating English Windows Vista Home Basic I bought the “router” as this is what the pipex help desk advised. However the TP-Link installation guide indicates I also need a xDSL, Cable or Ethernet placed between the “router” and the phone connection. What do I need to buy/do to make this work? Also I would like to do it cheaply. I would be grateful for any assistance. Many thanks |

You need a new modem. The USB modem you have is NOT compatible with any broadband router.

Re: complete novice vista/router/ TP-Link 54m/108m problem
Hi John, thanks for the quick reply.
Just so I am clear, I get a USB modem and plug that direct from the phone line into the back of the computer? So how does the TP-Link 54m/108m wireless router work, (do I plug it in separately) or is this now completely useless to me? Thanks |

Re: complete novice vista/router/ TP-Link 54m/108m problem
You will need to get a non-USB modem. Once you get one, you will need to connect the modem to the Uplink/Internet port on your router. From there you will access the Internet by connecting through your router.
