please help!!! dsl problems.
when i download a file, it always stops somewhere in the middle or towards the end.
sometimes it says connection reset by peer but most of the time it just stops downloading. and when i go on youtube or any other streaming video site, the red bar just stops loading right in the middle. the streaming is pretty fast and it doesn't have any buffering problems, it just stops. and when i check the modem when the video stops loading, the modem's activity section always stops blinking. if it helps, i have SBC yahoo dsl and i have a mac os x 10.4.11 tiger. PLEASE HELP!!! i am very annoyed with this problem |

Re: please help!!! dsl problems.
Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. Post the results link from the top of the test display page here.
The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like: If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different! and your IP will be disguised. Copy/paste that link here. Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

Re: please help!!! dsl problems.
Well, the ISP network is having issues going to the East coast, but that's not your problem.
I'd try a couple more of these tests to see if it indicates any losses on the packet tests. Post the results here.

Re: please help!!! dsl problems.
Actually, the important part of the test is at the top, and that ran clean. You did lose a couple of the pings, so there still could be some issue. I'd run a few and try to see if you catch one that illustrates a problem at your end.

Re: please help!!! dsl problems.
and when downloading a large file, the error message is usually "timed out" or "connection reset by peer" after about 40%-50% of the download and sometimes towards the end.

Re: please help!!! dsl problems.
You do have a few dropouts on the last hop. Check that all the filters are installed on ALL the phone devices EXCEPT the DSL modem. If you've changed any phone equipment, you'll want to remove it for the testing.
If nothing has changed in the phone system, I'd call the ISP and complain.
