every afternoon[moved from xp]

I lose my internet connection each day late afternoon.'Page cannot be displayed' is shown and I need to switch off for 5 mins in order to restore.
I have 8MG broadband wired through a router. Could just be a very busy time?

It's possible, is this at your home or at an office or something?

Re: every afternoon

I would call the broadband company tech support and see if there is anything wrong on their end before doing anything that might mess up your settings.

Some system specs including service pack, RAM, video, make and model of computer and as much as you can post would be most helpful

I have phoned my ISP but they are pretty useless, obviously reading from a script. Keep telling me to check my filters.

Re: every afternoon

I have installed a 'Network Diagnostics' tool for Windows XP and this has some success occasionally.Would this mean that the problem is IE or modem based?

You can check that by going to the cmd prompt (Hold the Start Key and Press R) then in the textbox type cmd then in the black box type ping -t www.google.com and see if you get any connection.

Re: every afternoon[moved from xp]

When the network is working well, then again when it's having problems, please do this.

Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. Post the results link from the top of the test display page here.

The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like:

If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different!
and your IP will be disguised.

Copy/paste that link here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

Re: every afternoon[moved from xp]

Hi johnwill,

Please find above the link copied and pasted as requested for your attention.

I ran two tests. one on 01/04/08 and one today only to find that I seem to have two different IP addresses. Can you explain?

Thanks,

teddyboy

Re: every afternoon[moved from xp]

Further to the above question.

I have two computers from one router one of which is wireless. Could this be the reason for two IP addresses?

Thanks,

teddyboy.

Re: every afternoon[moved from xp]

You have lots of lost packets, time to contact the ISP and complain about the issue.

The different IP address indicates your service disconnected and the ISP assigned a new IP address when you connected again. This is normal.
