record phone to pc question

I have tm digital phone service with the modem and it connects to my pc also. Is there someway to record my phone calls? If so can I record them as packets and read them when I am away from home to see who my kids are talking to? I am a beginner computer person, but know this must be possible. LIke line 2 on the cable modem for Telephone should be able to route calls with some type of device. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Well, while it's possible, I don't think it's a project that even I would tackle. The only way to do this is to actually monitor and decode the VoIP traffic as it comes in, not a trivial task by any means! I don't know of any existing software to do this, though there might be something available.

one thing to consider, recording phone calls for any reason without the knowledge of either party could be a violation of wiretapping laws. Check the laws of your area before proceeding
