browsers drop connection randomly

browser,Avant (i've used IE with the same outcome) as it loses the connection to the internet(says cant find sever) every couple of minutes. I'll be surfing along just fine and it will just stop responding. I'm using XP pro SP2 with a Linksys wmp54g wirless adapter that connects to a dlink dl-524 router. I have a laptop that connects just fine to the same router. My email and bit torrent client will both work (download and upload and not break thier connection) while the browser stops randomly. I have the ports forwarded in the bt client and router. I've tried using the linksys wireless monitor and the xp wirless connection thing to no avail. When it stops working I right click on the wireless network and repair and viola... it works...for about 3 minutes. AAAAARRRGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!! Please help if you can as my ISP won't deal with me since they know the signals good. I've also tried to dl the driver from Linksys and it won't run, somethings wrong with the .exe installer file cause the installer flashes for a second then closes, yeah, fun stuff, i'll email them later or search the web for the driver and try to reinstall if i find it.

Re: browsers drop connection randomly

First step would be to stop all the background stuff like P2P and see if the issue doesn't go away.

Personally, when I see P2P running and issues like this, it screams malware to me.

Re: browsers drop connection randomly

I've tried that and it still happens. It seems like it might be some little setting that i've missed or don't understand enough to mess with. I don't know. Can anyone tell me what settings to troubleshoot in the browser and router. Lnksys wireless monitor says "you are connected to the access point, but the internet cannot be found" untill i repair wireless connection. It works (fast) well for a minute and then nothing. I have to highlight and copy this draft as I type because I need to repiar and then paste and post. The maleware is not an issue as I've checked. Also i download live leagally taped shows in flac files from trader/taper sites not rando mp3s and video clips and apps. Everthing is scanned upon dl. Even if i'm downloading something like a driver or an update the dl diologue box will be just fine and my browser will work then drop randomly but the dl will continue. Its like it forgets to stay connected untill i remind it. Is there some way to get it to hold the connection once its restored??? Is it some type of sever settings?

Re: browsers drop connection randomly

oh yeah i forgot to mention that i have a static ip address in my router and here's something else that might help narrow it down. when i go to control panel > network connections> internet gateway and i double click the window flashes for about a half second then closes. i have to actually point and grab the blue bar at the top before it disapears to read it. under the general tab under status it displays connected then disconnected back and forth ever couple of seconds. duration and speed say not available. under packets, sent and recieved say not available but it does list a number for both 42,000 and climbing
