Wrong IP, no Internet - Please help
Hi,
I got Charter cable internet services and it went well for 2 weeks and suddenly it stopped working. I have Linksys wireless router connected to the cable modem and it was working fine. Now I am not able to connect to internet either through wireless or wired. I tried with Charter guys and they gave up. They tried all options like switch off modem, reboot the system, deleted the network driver and re-install apart from renewing the IP etc but still the laptop is picking DHCP IP address (192.168.100.1). The charter guys say it may be some software problem. I am not a systems guy, so don't know what more details to write. If any more details required to resolve the problem, please drop me a mail. |

Re: Wrong IP, no Internet - Please help
Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
When the computer is completely booted, let's see this. Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Wrong IP, no Internet - Please help
Thank you for your reply, shall try this and let you know the result.
I have an information to share. I have taken my laptop to couple of places including my work place , its not getting the IP address at any of these place. It is still picking local IP address... is this some ethernet or software problem within my laptop ?? At the same time, I tried my office laptop at home and it is working if I plug my laptop directly from cable modem. If I route it through the Router, it fails. Anymore inputs?? thanks Bhaskar |
