Internet connectvity dies periodically

I have been using SBC DSL for 2 yrs with no problems.
I have the Siemens Speedstream 4100 DSL modem (v6.0 sw)
running to a D-Link wireless router. The Sony deskside PC
is connected to the router through a cable, and the
various laptops run off the WLAN.

Recently, the Internet connectvity started to get flaky.
It will stop working after ~ 1 hr or so. I need to power cycle
both the modem & router to get it back online. Both the PC
on the calbe & the laptops on the wireless lose connectivity.

I replaced the router, same problem. Re-installed SBC DSL sw,
no help. Wonder if the modem is going bad?

I called SBC tech support, they are no help (they just tell me
to power cycle the modem -- not a permanent fix)

Re: Internet connectvity dies periodically

Next time it happens take notice of the light configuration on your modem. Do they change at all? :)

Insist on a new modem.

Re: Internet connectvity dies periodically

thanks, Bisque.
when the fault occurs, all DSL modem lights are green,
except "activity" light, which is off & does not flash.

router lights also tend to be steady green,
not flashing.

I will request a new modem from SBC.
