Internet connectivity issue...
Started having a weird internet connection issue a couple days ago. I have a static cable modem connection, and my loading speeds have become extremely slow all of a sudden and the connection lights in my system tray go solid whenever I try to download something or even just load a web page as if the connection is overloaded. Sometimes I just can't get anything to load (in a web browser) and it freezes up my whole computer. When my boyfriend is on his computer trying to play games on the internet (such as World of Warcraft etc...) and I try to load a web page or anything on my computer his latency goes sky high and it doesn't stop until I stop whatever I'm doing. His computer has slightly higher than normal latency since this started happening even when I'm not doing anything but otherwise it's pretty normal. I've tried ping tests and have gotten some at +200 and some that are in normal ranges on my computer. I've run spyware tests etc..but they've found nothing abnormal and I can't for the life of me figure out what's going on. We have a Linksys router BEFSR41 ver 3, and Motorola surfboard modem SB5100 as the setup.
I have a Dell Dimension 4600 computer if that info is needed...with Windows XP home edition service pack 2 loaded. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide Last edited by td1234; 02-01-2008 at 09:11 PM. Reason: Added specific equipment info |

Re: Internet connectivity issue...
Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. Post the results link from the top of the test display page here.

Re: Internet connectivity issue...
I got the message that my IP address is not pingable from their site. I went through the instructions they have to try to make it pingable and it still wouldn't work. It gave me the option to run tests anyway so I did that and here you go...

Re: Internet connectivity issue...
The major value of the tests are lost without the PING enabled.
You need to enable the PING in the router. I think it's on the WAN menu, Block WAN Request should be Disabled.

Re: Internet connectivity issue...
I had the right options checked in the router but I heard it helps to actually save your changes to make them take effect

Re: Internet connectivity issue...
That test shows one node on the west coast path that is pretty screwed up, but I don't think that's your basic issue. Try running a couple more of the tests, see if we can catch the thing that is biting you.
