constantly dropping internet connection

PLEASE can anyone help.
First - I don't know a great deal about computers, I may even have posted this in the wrong place!
Heres the problem and its driving me crazy. When I connect to the internet everything is fine for about 10 minutes, then my computer slows right down and browser page informs me that the page has timed out. My internet connection still shows as being connected. If I disconnect and then reconnect everything goes well for a few more minutes, after 3 or 4 times that this happens the modem will then not disconnect, my computer freezes and I can do nothing other than turn off and reboot.
Does anyone please have the answer to this frustrating problem. I have had to re boot 3 times to get to this site and post !!!!
Thanks

That screams malware to me.

Please follow this HJT Log 5 Step Process to post a HijackThis log in the HijackThis Log Help forum here.

Re: constantly dropping internet connection

I followed all instructions given, I found no programs to uninstall from both your list or the web site you gave. The scan download however was a nightmare. My Internet connection broke 4 times whilst trying to obtain this download. The download began but a pop up window kept informing me that there was an error and to try again, 3 times I did this, then had to disconnect and reconnect to try for a fourth time. In the end I had to ignore the error report and continue the download which had started The download itself took 2 hours to complete with a further two reconnects necessary.
Finally downloaded and cant open the file ?
Help needed again sorry !

Re: constantly dropping internet connection

Hi Mylopotamou!!

Try to use any download manager instead using the direct download, such as FlashGet, or Internet Download Manager. You can download this program from any other working computer, then installed it on this computer before downloading further applications. Then, post the computer specifications and the HijackLog log on the HijackThis Forum, as the johnwill said

Re: constantly dropping internet connection

There is no way I can get Panda ActiveScan to work. I have tried everything I can think of.
I use Firefox as my browser but in order to do this scan I have made Explorer my default, downloaded the latest version, gone back to Panda and the results are the same.
The scan takes place, download proceeds (32mb 3 hours) then error box in Panda tells me that there is an error and to retry. I have been through this process a dozen times and I'm getting nowhere fast.
I already have 'HiJack This' on my computer, can I use this as an alternative to scan and post logs in the forum?

How does it work if you boot in safe mode with networking?

Re: constantly dropping internet connection

OK, I have tried again with my computer in safe mode, first attempt, I got a 'runtime error' with my email programme then an 'abnormal programme termination' message. Internet connection dropped, tried reconnect, and my computer locked.
I shut down and restarted in safe mode. Active scan started - download proceeded with Internet Download manager, Panda screen then showed 'error' try again message.
I began again today, and all went well for a while. I thought this was going to be succesful and then a new Panda window can up 'Service Unavailable'
Do you think that Panda has a problem rather than me ?

Hi Mylopotamou!

Did you boot in Safe Mode instead of Safe Mode with Networking? Try to do it once again, and see if it works fine?

Hi again Mylopotamou!

First of all, make sure all this services is not disabled on your computer:

1. Telephony
2. Plug and play
3. Remote procedure call
4. Remote Access Auto Connection Manager

On details on enable services, you can refer to this microsoft article:

Re: constantly dropping internet connection

Hello again,
Sorry, still no progress to report.
I checked the services, all were ok except Remote Access Auto Connection which I changed from manual to automatic.
Back to restart in safe mode with networking - still no Internet access. 711 Error message informed me 'cannot load Remote Access.
I went back to standard startup and checked this service which was still set on Automatic.
Back again to safe mode with networking, and received Error messages 1068 and 1084 - something to do with Internet access not being available in safe mode with networking ?
Now, this set me thinking and maybe this makes a difference.
My computer access's the Internet using an ISDN box via USB connection, I do not use my internal modem to connect.
In any event, I tried again in standard mode to download the Panda programme with no luck at all, then found a page with comments about the programme, all were reporting that there seemed to be a problem getting this download ?
I have written to Panda asking advice but have not received a reply.
Please where do I go from here. Incidentally, even if I succeed in accessing the Internet in safe mode with networking, Panda's programme downloading time is around two and a half hours - my computer will lose Internet connection way before this completes, if there is no chance to resume a download, I am on a road to nowhere.

Re: constantly dropping internet connection

Hi again Mylopotamou!

It seems like maybe the issue with your ISP. Try call them and check out with them. If everything is going fine with the ISP, then we'll try to troubleshoot computer again.

About the Panda antivirus, you might want to use a download manager, such as GetRight, FlashGet, or Free Download Manager, which can resume the download if the internet connection drops
