Problem with Dynamode Router and Virgin Media Broadband
Hi,
We have been on Virgin Media's broadband for around 9 months now. Shortly after signing up we got the Dynamode BR 6004 wireless router so that we could have multiply laptops connected. We plugged the ethernet cable from the VM modem straight into the Router and after changing the security settings it worked perfectly. This was until last week however. We lost all internet connection so were forced to ring VM customer service. They informed us that they had disconnected out service as there was a problem with out router. I wasn't able to go into much detail with the guy about the problem as it was a premium rate number however he said it was something to do with the router requesting IP addresses which was messing with their service. I don't have that much knowledge in this area so don't really understand. They reconnected the internet however said that if i attempted to plug the router back in they would instantly disconnect us again. So we're having to use a physical connection which is really inconvenient. Does anyone have any idea how i can resolve this? The customer service guy said I needed to update the firmware however i've been unable to find any. My mate said I needed to switch the router over to static IP address setting however I don't really know how to do this and don't know what the IP address should be. As a last resort we'll just have to buy a new router. Any suggestions of one that will definitely work? We have the 4 mb speed package. |

Re: Problem with Dynamode Router and Virgin Media Broadband
I'd buy a more mainstream router like a Linksys or D-Link. Make sure it has the latest firmware before you install it.
You can update a router's firmware without it being connected to an on-line connection. Once you get the firmware file on your computer, just connect to a LAN port on the router, reboot the computer, and access the router's web based setup to upgrade the firmware.
