Linksys N Router with DSL
Hello all,
I am extremely frustrated. I have been running a Linksys WRT54G for almost 4 years through a Verizon (So Cal) DSL line with a Fujitsu Speedport DSL modem. The main PC was replaced 2 yrs. ago. I am trying to install a new Linksys WRT150N router but it will not work. While on the phone with Linksys, the tech tried to setup with PPPoE settings but it would not connect. The tech then had me take the router out of the equation and connect directly to the DSL modem. This also would not work (no internet connection). So then I have to call Verizon. They have me try releasing and renewing the IP address but this does not work either (along with power ups/downs). They tell me this is a dumb modem and once the router has directed an IP address it can't be reset (huh!?). They then tell me that I have a bad modem and to go out and buy a Westell 6100. I reconnect the G router and everything is back to normal. This makes no sense to me. I am not the most technically savvy but this should not be that difficult. Another odd thing it when I go to the IP address in explorer 192.168.1.1, the admin password won't let me in. I have no idea why. Please can someone start pointing me in the right direction. I am tired of spending hours on the phone with Linksys/Verizon with low level techs. |
