connection problems
I have an HP Pavillion notebook and am having problems with my internet connection. I am running windows XP and have a DSL connection.
I am able to connect to the internet via ethernet or wireless but the connection fails after browsing a few web pages. I still have an internet connection with an IP address but I cannot accessss any URLs with any browser. If I repair the connection, I can access a few more pages before the connection fails again. I have tried all of the things that AT@T ask me to do but with no result. I tried my work computer and that connects fine. Can anyone please help? |

Re: connection problems
What did you change right before this started happening?
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please. Make and model of the broadband modem. Make and model of the router. Connection type, wired or wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) Make/model of your computer. Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP2, Vista, etc. Also, please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages. On any problem computer, I'd also like to see this: Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: connection problems

Nothing. This laptop has only been used for email/internet. No settings have been changed, no programs downloaded/installed. Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please. Make and model of the broadband modem. Siemens Speedstream 4100 Ethernet ADSL Modem Make and model of the router. Netgear 54 mbps Wireless Router WGR614 v6 Connection type, wired or wireless. Tried both. Same results. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) NONE Make/model of your computer. HP pavilion dv9000 laptop Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP2, Vista, etc. Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 2 Also, please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact IMPORTANT: I connected a second laptop to the same modem etc, and was able to connect and navigate without any problems whatsoever. LAN connection. Logon. Open browser. Able to connect to initial home page (regardless of what that home page is). Then able to go to between 0 and approx 5 other URLs before the connection/browser hangs. All indications are that the computer is still connected. Task Manager>Networking tab indicates the Adapter: Local Area Connection; State=connected. Ipconfig indicates the LAN is connected (note that the results of ipconfig/all are identical whether I run it when the connection is working, or when the browser is hanging). Computer can be pinged. (ISP support also went through these steps and found nothing wrong with the connection) Computer>Device Manager shows no problems CPU usage is not unusual. If I re-boot, or right-click on the Network Connection, then click “Repair” .. I’m able to connect again, however again only for between 1 and 5 URLs Steps taken: Multiple re-boots Tried multiple browsers (IE, firefox, opera) Deleted internet temp files/cookies etc. Ran virus and spyware s/w : no virus/spyware detected. Ran System Restore to earliest point possible, sometime in mid-September 2007. Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Re: connection problems
Your Ethernet connection shows a public IP address. If this is connected to a router, the router is wired incorrectly. Make sure the modem is connected to the WAN/Internet port and not one of the LAN/Network ports.
