Router/Switch conflictions, frequent internet loss [moved from XP]
Having some problems with networking/internet recently. In short, i have our internet service provider modem connected to a netgear wireless router, the router sends a LAN cable upstairs to a gigafast(brand name) switch, and three computers are connected to the switch. I did this because that way the computer near the router can get internet, our wireless laptop can get internet, and the switch allows the three computeres upstairs to get internet.
However, recently, when all three computers from the switch are on the internet, all of them get bumped off the internet every 10 minutes or so for about 20 seconds, then they get back get back on. This frequently happens and I dont know why this is. It used to work fine, but i figured theres some IP conflicting issues with the switch and router(though i have recently found out that switches don't assign ips). Also, note that when i type in IP config in command prompt, it says something about tunneling, so i dont know what to do. In any case, if anyone knows why our computers are getting bumped from the internet on a reguluar basis and then reconnecting, that would be great if i could get some help. |

Re: Router/Switch conflictions, frequent internet loss [moved from XP]
First off, is it only the three on the Gigafast switch? If the wireless laptop and the computer next to the router work properly, I'd be looking at replacing the switch.

Re: Router/Switch conflictions, frequent internet loss [moved from XP]
The laptop and computer next to the router do work fine, also note that i've used a linksys router for the past year and when this problem came up, i replaced it with a netgear router(due to having problems with linksys routers in the past), so i do believe it could be the switch and i think i'm going to end up buying a new one and seeing how that works, but as far as anyone can tell, based on the setup, could there be any network settings i would have to set up since i am using a switch, or should it all work fine without changing any specific settings with the router?

Re: Router/Switch conflictions, frequent internet loss [moved from XP]
The switch should be invisible to the machines. I freely move switches around on the network, and I never give it a thought.
