[SOLVED] Re: Slow internet
I am having the same problem with 2G memory and Vista and a DSL connection. I have processed (three separate products) detection scans which report "no viruses, no malware, no spyware.
Any other advise? |

Re: Slow internet
Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.
I've created a new thread for your issue here. Note: You will need to post complete details of your configuration and your specific issue in this new thread for us to help you. Thanks for your cooperation.

Re: Slow internet
I have a new Dell 531 with Vista Home Premium loaded, 2G AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Proc 5000+, 32-bit OS and a DSL connection with a SpeadStream 5260 modum. I have run three separate product scans that all returned "No viruses, no Malware, no Spyware.
I've done all the first steps that I know of: deleting cookies, temp files, stored form info/passwords. I've reset IE and Firefox and deleted/uninstalled any suspect software that I could identify. Some (not all) web sites will not load; some are extremely slow (like techsupportforum... the load indicator just spins until I get a reset error. I've already talked to AT&T, my DSL provider which also owns Yahoo, my ISP provider. They will not admit that there is any problem with their lines or the email server which is one of the sites I cannot access. I'll take any advice you can offer. Thanks, jackiek |

Re: Slow internet
Register at DSLReports and run their line quality tests. Post a link to the results here.

Re: Slow internet
You need to enable ICOM (PING) requests on your router to run the line quality tests.

Re: Slow internet
I don't have a router (just a modem - SpeedStream 5260). After the first failure, I found the site's instructions for the trusted security area of my firewall and then tried again with the same results.
Do I need a router or is there is something to try? |

Re: Slow internet
In that case, you enable PING on your software firewall(s).

Re: Slow internet
I did this and tried turning off the firewall again. Also talked to Norton again for assistance with the PING issue. They advised going back to ISP provider again. Any other suggestions in case I give them all this trace/ping data and they still say it's not them? I was going to try switching to cable until I saw the guy with the similar situation who is using cable...

Re: Slow internet
Well, I'd still like to see the line quality tests with ping enabled. We still don't really know what the issue is.

Re: Slow internet
You're pinging from the other side, the router's configuration needs to be changed to allow pings from the Internet.

Re: Slow internet
Sorry I didn't understand the ping but when Norton and ATT Tech tested it they found the same thing. I've not kept up on a lot of the behind the screen details though I like to understand what's going on for situations like this.
Anyway the problem is fixed (with a lot of help). It was the DSL line. I had a tech who saw the line dropping the signal. At least that's the way he phrased it to me. He issued ticket to have the line checked. I talked to them today and that's all they did was run a line check... they didn't find any problem but now it's working... go figure. thanks for all your assistance Jackiek |

Re: Slow internet
That's one way to fix it.
