lost internet connection - works in safe mode

I recently lost my internet connection on my pc. My two sons both have pc's connected through my "belkin 4 port wireless g router" through my "teryon comcast cable modem" with no problems. If I run "safe mode w/ networking" I am able to connect to the internet. Does this sound like a virus problem? Here is my necessary info -

Re: lost internet connection - works in safe mode

That IPCONFIG shows a good connecton, is this in safe mode?

Here's one thing to try in normal mode and see if that helps.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the machine.

Re: [SOLVED] lost internet connection - works in safe mode

BAD news!!!! When I rebooted my pc the same exact problem reappeared. The Panda scan found "adware" infections but I never addressed them as recommended by your instructions. (did not purchase program). Could this be an infection that reappeared after rebooting? One funny thing I would like to mention, while shutting down pc (through START > SHUTDOWN), it automatically began downloading "updates", about 8 or 9 of them. Happy progress is being made and very hopeful we can remedy this situation.
Sincerely,
Pete

Re: [SOLVED] lost internet connection - works in safe mode

It's normal for Windows Update to run before the shutdown, that shouldn't be the issue.

Let's see this.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Also, please do this.

Please post a HijackThis 2.00.2 Log here.

Re: lost internet connection - works in safe mode

You don't seem to have a firewall or AV running. You appear to be wide open to infections.

Try these simple tests in normal mode.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

PING 216.109.112.135

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: lost internet connection - works in safe mode

I don't know if I ever gave you this from the PANDA ACTIVE SCAN. After performing this scan and DECKARD'S SYSTEM SCAN I was able to get onto the internet in normal mode until I rebooted my PC. Thanks for all of your help.

Re: lost internet connection - works in safe mode

Sounds like something is biting you.

I'd start disabling groups of things using MSCONFIG and see if you can narrow down what's blocking your access. Note that you have to reboot each time you reconfigure with MSCONFIG.
