Problem accessing the internet.[moved from xp]
hi
I have a Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO router through which 3 PCs connect to our ADSL internet connection, two of them through wireless adapators and the third directly via an ethernet cable. Recently the one PC connected by a cable started playing up and refusing to display any webpages as if there was no internet. The little LAN connection icon still flashes away in the system tray as if the connection is there, and when I do a ping test using a dos prompt it returns it fine (4/4, no errors, av 23ms etc etc, it's fine). Yet when you open explorer, or try and use any other program that needs a connection to the internet, such as msn messenger or zonealarm pro's updater thing, it acts like there isn't a connection active. Frustrating. I've tried restarting the router, restarting the pc, turning everything off and leaving it until it was cooled down, running it in safe mode, turning off zonealarm... you name it. Any suggestions as to what the beef is? Something similar happened to my laptop a couple of years ago and after a combined 5 hours of remote support from an "expert" technician I was left with no other option than to format the system, which coincidentally cleared up the problem. So, what say you? cheers. |

Re: Problem accessing the internet.
I have the same problem with the same router at times, I was actually pinpointing it to a network card issue but I am unsure about anything at this point. Funny thing is I had a direct connection from modem to cpu that wouldnt work, soon as I hooked the Router up to it it worked. I can only assume its an XP related issue with some of the windows updates, the updates in the past have screwed up alot of stuff.

Re: Problem accessing the internet.
Yea that router is a heap of junk sometimes. All last week I would have to reboot it about 5 or 6 times a day to reset the internet connection, then it worked fine for a day, now this.

Re: Problem accessing the internet.
Delete the updates from the past 2-3 weeks, Im not even sure if thats a wise choice since it may not even be the problem.
Its just the only thing I can see right now.

Re: Problem accessing the internet.
uninstalled the updates but still no joy. tried using a usb wireless adaptor and that works fine so it'll do for now, but it means when my sister comes home from uni for the holidays that she'll have no internet connection for her comp. I could always buy another wireless adaptor, but I don't see why I should spend more money when the equipment I have should be enough.
