[SOLVED] New router...same problem. Laptops will not connect
It all started about a month ago. laptops were connected and showing excellent signal then i was getting limited or not connectivity.
One forum says if both laptops are doing this that the router must be going bad. well brand new $100 router. Linksys WRT150N. All set up through my Desktop with the disk. Created a user name and password etc. Router Password, Wireless network name, PSK2 Personal for security, and a shared key. I have tried absolutely everything but throw the laptops out the window!!!!!!! which i assure you will be my next step. I CANNOT connect. I clearly see the available wireless network. One laptop gives Wireless network Connection error saying the network my no longer be in range.....but I have an excellent connection. This is the Dell Inspiron 1150. The other laptop connects, excellent connection, i go to get online.....it has resorted to me having to work offline....so, no connection!!!! Please help! |

Re: New router...same problem. Laptops will not connect
Have you tried with no encryption first to get the basic connection working? You can add encryption in as a separate step after you get a connection working.

Re: New router...same problem. Laptops will not connect
I now have an unsecured wireless network. Network authentication is Open, Data encryption is disabled.
I am connected and have excellent strength. But, i am not connected to the internet and cannot view web pages. I have tried new passwords, re-installed the linksys disk and started over. I have tried WEP 128, WEP 64, i have tried 10 character password with letters and numbers, ltters only and numbers only.... evertime i go through the properties on the wireless netwrok connection properties/wireless networks/properties/association my Network key and Confirm network key always seems to resort back to a previous setting......not even the same amount of characters etc. |

Re: New router...same problem. Laptops will not connect
Can you connect to the router with a wired connection?
With encryption disabled, let's see this. Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: New router...same problem. Laptops will not connect
ok, I have both laptops working now. I did a system restore to both of them for around September of this year. I found it strange that both laptops would start this problem at the same time.
My conclusion to this 36 hout ordeal is that one of the windows security updates from windows totally screwed up my stuff. I now have a $100 router that I did not need. Now, to figure out which one of those updates was the culprit is going to be a chore. thanks for the help..... |

Re: New router...same problem. Laptops will not connect
I hope that update doesn't have the same effect on my laptops here.

Re: [SOLVED] New router...same problem. Laptops will not connect
It has not been confirmed that an actual windows update was to fault. I do not surf, download...etc. Very cautious and game mostly. It was the only thing that had updated, downloaded or run on either of my wireless machines......
thoughts? after my restores, i had updates from windows ready to download and install....I downloaded and installed them, but everything seems to be running fine. Am I way off base to even think updates were the problem? |

Re: [SOLVED] New router...same problem. Laptops will not connect
If you updated drivers, they could be the issue. I NEVER update hardware from Windows update, I prefer to control that directly.
