Re: Wifi laptop to a regular line
As stated, it should be as simple as connecting the cable. Since that doesn't work, perhaps you can fill in some blanks so we can diagnose it.
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please. Make and model of the broadband modem. Make and model of the router. Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP2, Vista, etc. Also, please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages. On any problem computer, I'd also like to see this: Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Wifi laptop to a regular line
Well I'll be damned, I was typing my message with all the info you asked for and left the cable plugged in (tried for last few days to make it work!) and then bam! I'm not touching anything and that balloon pops in saying I'm connected.
Anyway, fyi, the local area connection still shows 'limited or no connectivity'. I installed the connection software provided by my friend's internet provider and tried for a few days, but always got a 'Error 678' message every time. So no idea why it just decided to work all of a sudden. Using Windows XP Home Ed, SP2, a Realtk TRL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC is installed. Modem is some aging NEC NTA-3110, plugged in using WLAN socket. |

Re: Wifi laptop to a regular line
Hard to say why it now works. There could be a multitude of issues.
