internet connection randomly gives up??
as it says, my internet connection randomly quits, whether i am surfing the internet or not even in the same room as my computer.
this is sometimes accompanied by a false "cable has been unplugged" message, or a random restart by the system, after which it helpfully tells me it has recovered from a serious error. by clicking repair in network connections, the system cannot renew my IP address. the only way to regain the connection to the network is to shut off power completely and reboot. i am connected to the internet by ethernet going to a port at 100 mbps. there are 2 other computers on this network. also, about every other time i start internet explorer, it "unexpectedly quits" and i have to start it again. ??? any help? thanks in advance. |

Re: internet connection randomly gives up??
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.
Make and model of the broadband modem. Make and model of the router. Connection type, wired or wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) Make/model of your computer. Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP2, Vista, etc. Also, please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages. On any problem computer, I'd also like to see this: Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: internet connection randomly gives up??
my information is as follows:
broadband modem - motorola surfboard sb5120 router - D-Link D1704P (wired) computer - fry's electronics "great quality system" series running a amd athlon 64 2800+ xp-home, sp2. the problem is only on this computer, not on any other in the network. here is my ipconfig: Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. C:\Documents and Settings\the computer>ipconfig /all Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : C Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : sd.cox.net Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : sd.cox.net Description . . . . . . . . . . . : VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-14-2A-3B-F6-F6 Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.**.118 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.*.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.** DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.** DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 68.105.*.11 68.105.*.11 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Tuesday, December 04, 2007 2:32:23 PM Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Tuesday, December 11, 2007 2:32:23 PM as for the error messages, i recieve internet explorer's "the page cannot be displayed." when checking network connections in control panel, under activity, bytes are being sent, but none recieved. clicking on repair under the support tab, the repairs are stuck on renewing ip address for a few minutes or until i cancel, which it then says it could not "complete the following tasks: repair ip address. Please contact service provider" and notifies me of low connectivity. the "LAN cable has been unplugged" message flashes on, and then leaves, with a low connectivity report from network connections. Considering this, i feel the problem may be from the cable itself? after the rare unexpected reboot of the computer, i get "the system has recovered from a serious error" and informs me to sends an error report in the box below. the internet explorer is the typical : "this program is not responding" and gives me the options "end now" and "cancel" irreguardless of which i choose, it will close after a few seconds of being open. however, it seems unrelated to the problem. Re: internet connection randomly gives up??
EDIT: on last post, the internet explorer error message is actually:
"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." and the options are don't send, or send. again, it seems unrelated to the problem as there is no correlation between the netwrok connectivity and this error appearing. |

Re: internet connection randomly gives up??
MY computer iis less than a month old, I'm running Vista and have the same problem, when I contacted my ISP they said that my band width was way off the charts, they came and checked my lines and said they were fine....OK, so I took the computer in to the shop.....no problems found, well the only thing Ive put on this machine since I got the darn thing is CA securtity suite 2007, going to unistall it and try something else.
Don't know if this helps or is even related to your problem, but best of luck. |

Re: internet connection randomly gives up??
no, i am not running ca secuity suite.
i use kaspersky antivirus 6.0, if antivirus programs have to do with the problem? although other computers on the network use it as well and there is no problem. |
