AT&T Worlnet Modem question
I'm not a Worldnet customer, but I'm asking this question for a family member that is having problems and knows almost nothing about computers. She is using Windows XP and other than telling you that the computer is fairly new (less than 1 year), I can't tell you much more about the PC, modem, etc.
The problem is that when she disconnects from the service using the usual worldnet utility that is in the tray, it looks like its disconnecting properly, but never really does. The phone line is still in use and if someone calls, they get that noise that you hear when you accidentally dial a fax machine. The only way to really get it to disconnect is to physically pull the phone cord out of the machine. I'm hoping there is a simple reason for this that can be changed through modem properties of some sort, but it's been so long since I've used a modem, I wasn't able help her. I would prefer to ask this question in a Worlnet specific forum of some sort, but so far I haven't found one, and the Worldnet newsgroups that I saw were pretty inactive. If anyone can recommend a better place to troubleshoot this issue, I'd love to know. Thanks. |
