Ok, something needs to be done. correct me if i am wrong, but will having windows open on one computer make the others computer performance drastically drop.Or would a ROUTER affect one computers performance but not 2 others. ok i guess to better understand this issue ill just say it, my parents computer acts funny all the time its a new Dell E510 desktop, now i have a router and they think that having 2 other computers wirelessly makes their computer drastically slow down, and give errors. i dont think so, but hey and they also think that by me having windows open on my computer that it makes theirs run slow too. this has been a problem for awhile, now i have no problems on my computer it works great, and so does my brothers, but my parents computer gets errors all the time and acts slow when they are on it. i told them its their computer that has a problem not having a router or me having stuff open in on my computer. They also have weirds ideas about why there computer is somehow affected by mine and my brothers, again me and my brother have never had a problem, so there you have. let me know im correct please.

Re: Help Please
I can not see how your parents computer, based on the information you have provided, could be slowing down simply by using your own computer. Now, it could possibly slow down if it was using Internet Connection Sharing (ICS), but if you are using a router you shouldn't even be using it.
Opening windows on your computer should not cause theirs to slow down by any regard unless you, by chance, are doing something untoward to their computer (which I assume you are not). Also having a router should definitely not cause problems, as by the basis of design routers do not "blabb" other people's network traffic to computers where packets are not destined for by virtue of NAT/PAT (Network/Port Access Translation). If anything a router should help reduce unwanted traffic because of NAT/PAT and by its firewall. It is more likely that their computer may be bogged down by "bloatware" (fat, heavy, and sometimes unnecessary/unused software) and potentially malicious software. New Dell computers, for example, tend to come with several programs not necessary or even used commonly by users and can be uninstalled to save storage space and memory usage (God knows I've setup/staged plenty of Dell machines ). If their computer has not been properly patched/updated, has good AV and anti-malware software, and properly configured, it could be infected with junk which could be slowing it down. It is also possible there may be software running on it which may be causing significant performance problems, such as bloaty AV software or other such stuff. How old is the computer? What software is currently installed on it? What do they commonly do on the computer? Last edited by Cellus : 11-11-2007 at 10:07 PM. |
