connection to the internet

my father law recently updated nortons there were problems so he had to unistall it. after he did that we were not able to get a internet connection the lines are fine there is a connection to the cable modem. is there something i am missing when i am going into the internet options under connections. also is the light suppose to be green where the internet connection is going into the pc once it is pluged in.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the machine.
