Changing IP = will effect wireless network?

I use a wireless router and Im pretty sure that my pc, and my Laptop have the same IP. (They share it)

So, if I was to somehow change my IP on this computer, will that screw up everything else? Or will it change for the other things too..

The ip is provided by your internet provider and can only be changed by them

Re: Changing IP = will effect wireless network?

I know how to change my IP - it involves unplugging a few things, losing power, and a whole overall time of 2 minutes spending to change it.

Re: Changing IP = will effect wireless network?

Do both machines connect to the Internet currently? Do this for each machine:

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
