losing ip address
On a regular basis I find myself losing my internet cable connection and am told by Charter support that I've lost my ip address. Within a few minutes they have restored it online, but it always happens again after a few days. Is there anything I can do myself to solve the problem? Thank you.

The modem is motorola surfboard SB4200
Router is D-link DI524 wired Network card Realtek RTL8139 family PCI F Compaq presario S4100NX XP home sp2 I will have intermittant service or none at all. This happens fairly often. Right now everything is doing good but I never know when it will occur again. Charter tells me it"s thefault of my pc. |

Re: losing ip address
I'd run connected directly to the modem first, that will eliminate the router as a possible issue. FWIW, I think the D-Link DI-524 is one of the worst products D-Link ever made, so it would be my top suspect.
