vista and verizon dsl
My friend just bought a HP with a combo modem/router and hooked up through Verizon dsl. He can use his computer but not wireless, and can't figure out how to make it wireless. Any ideas. His router indicates he's wireless but cant unplug the cable.
Thanks, b |

Re: vista and verizon dsl
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.
Make/model of the broadband modem. Make/model of the router (if any). Connection type, wired, wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc.) Make/model of network card or wireless adapter. Make/model of your computer (motherboard if home-built). Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP2, Vista, etc. Also, please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages. Also, let's see this for the computer. Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: vista and verizon dsl
Thanks John for the reply. I will try to get the model as this is for a busy friend, but I know it is a brand new HP laptop with a combination modem/router. He has Verizon dsl, connected everything, the wirless light goes on but no ablility to go wireless. He can use the computer when he's connected but doesn't know what to check and it came with no information. I'll get the model when I get a chance but it was $1,000.00 machine.
