S.O.S! Network in serious danger
Ok let me start from the beginning. I am running an Alienware Area 51 Laptop. The OS is Windows XP. The main problem I have however has to do with my internet connection. I use both a wireless connection via a wireless card and regular local connections with a internet network cable. SO what's the problem?
I can't connect online. This happened after I stupidly took up a friend's advice and downloaded Ares onto my computer. After doing this I went searching for Quicktime 7 Pro and found one which had iTunes with it also. All this time I was connected via netweork cable. After about 10 to 15 minutes when i had the quicktime I openned it, tested it and got what I wanted but I never noticed that my internet connection had stopped working. I thought at first the problem was a drop in internet connection because the message "internet connection was unplugged" was permanently on my task bar to the far bottom right. I waited a while then I decided to use my network card. The moment I plugged it in the computer froze. Everytime since when I plugged in my network card the computer froze. Now I know this is a spyware, virus or other malicious entity because the same 'unplug' message is still there everytime I turn on my system where it usually wouldn't be and everytime I right click on my desktop it freezes up and I have to disable explorer in Task Messenger and run it again to get back the desktop everytime. I tried running Avg and it completely by passed any viruses. Now that I can't go on the net I can't update it either. I have two firewalls and they both didn't notice anything either. I also went to get it repaired at a computer technician and he advized that I reformat my disk...just reboot everything. The problem is I can't do that because I left all the cds in another country and for some reason I think my relative lost them as they can't find them. Is there some other way to solve my problem? I'm in dire need of help! |

Please follow our HijackThis 5 Step Process and post in our HJT Help board as Johnwill recommends.
While AVG is an effective program, it is not comprehensive enough to guarantee your system is clean and the problem is fixed for good. Our 5 Step Process is proven to be very effective, and our security team consists of knowledgeable and experience malware fighters who can appropriately diagnose and treat your problems. |

Re: S.O.S! Network in serious danger
The AVG attempt didn't work. After all i can't update and even if I update anything prior and load it in from a thumb disk it doesn't work at all. to begin with I HAD Avg and it still didn't work. So tough luck there. I think I'll try the 5 step...it looks complicated but it may be useful after all.
