2 Questions 1 Problem
Hello all...
I have been usnig a router which is connected upto my computer with ethernet and the laptop downstairs receives the wireless. First question: I see alot of people on forums and that say they use a modem AND a router??? Erm I've been using just a router? Is it better to use both or what? Second question: On ipconfig my ip adress is 192.......65 but when I type whatismyip.com my ip is different, and on my router it's set as IP adress 192..........65 is that normal? Ok... The problem: I play online games and I get ALOT of spikes and they last sometimes 1 second sometimes 6, it's really annoying I have turned the WZC service off, I have tried alot of different channels, I turned off the wireless phones I just don't know what else to do. Router: Linksys WAG354G Thanks alot for reading, please reply. Oh and I've just come across this... IGD-1.0 on WAG354G That's under Internet Gateway, it was usually Internet or something. Re: 2 Questions 1 Problem
A router makes it so that you can hook up more than one computer, as in a hub. And the modem give you the ability to connect to the internet.

Re: 2 Questions 1 Problem
Your "router" is probably a modem/router, which just combines the two units. Obviously, the make/model would confirm this.
The slow response can be cured with a wired connection.

Re: 2 Questions 1 Problem
Like johnwill said, your router is likely a modem/router, which it is:
Linksys WAG354G "If you are after a wireless router and adsl modem all in one" http://wireless.gumph.org/content/6/...4g-review.html Bottom line, you already have a modem that's built into your router. |

Re: 2 Questions 1 Problem
Answer to second question:
The IP address you are getting from whatismyip.com is your public IP. The 192.*.*.* address is your internal private IP.
