I've been having problems with background noise on my sbc dsl from day one. After charging 90 ducks for a filter at the box outside, I'm told the problem is with my inside wiring. So, I rewire the entire house with CAT 5e cable. The problem is reduced (but not gone) on all lines except one, where I have a GE Model 2-9420A 2-line phone. I've also changed the splitter twice, the result is the same.
When I swithout the GE phone the problem is reduced to the same level as on other phones. So here are three interrelated questions. 1. Are some phones more sensitive to interference when conected to a dsl filtered line? 2. How can I select new phones to prevent this problem. 3. Is some background noise always inevitable? The filters ae supposed to cut down on the dsl "noise". See if you can't get a filter for the phone and any others you have on the line.
I suppose some noise is possible, but unless the weather is bad, it shouldn't be noticeable.

There should be absolutely no background noise, at least I've never had that issue in the installations I've done. I normally do a single whole-house filter and run a home-run to the DSL modem in front of the filter.

it can also be a phone problem. some old pos phones have a habit of doing this. have you tried unplugging all the phones, and testing them one by one to see if you can eliminate the problem.
and it could not be the inside wiring. sbc techs get lazy and sloppy. most likely is something on sbc's side or at your box. sbc will deny it to their death that it is their problem. they always say "its your wiring" and time after time again i have to fix their fsck ups. |

there is a jack outside you can check and then you can rule out your house having bad wiring

yes there is, i thought a bout posting that but...
if his problem is because of the dsl, a lot of the times you will not hear the problem by testing the outside jack. because the dsl has to be connected to be causing the problem. but if you use the test jack (which unplugs the inside wiring from the sbc side) the dsl is no longer connected. and if thats the case, you get a nice clear line. but when you plug it back it, the modem syncs up, and the problem comes back. heh, dont happen to have a SideKick meter would ya? heh, prolly not. |

Thanks for the info. I forced/tricked SBC into testing the line with only one good phone pluged into the test jack. Imagine that, they found a short. And said it was in my house. When confronted with the set-up they tested again and said the problem was on the network.
They replaced a board somewhere and now my line in very quiet. Thanks for the tips and info. |
