I have a Sony VAIO laptop (VGN-FE790G) running Windows XP Media Center Edition, and a Linksys WRT45G v.5 wireless router. Everytime I boot up my laptop I have to go to the toolbar and right click the wireless icon and select Repair. The majority of the time it connects after that until next time I boot up the system.
Also, when my laptop is connected to the internet and I turn on the Xbox 360 it connects to Xbox Live and kicks off the computer. I log on the computer and the Xbox will get logged out. Eventually the scramble for connection is balanced and I can operate both. Just looking for some helpful hints to keep my laptop connected and prevent quarrels with the Xbox. Derek |

Re: Connection conflicts and constant repair
With both issues that you are having, it sounds like the router is not allowing enough users to connect to it simultaneously, try going into the configuration page on the router and changing the maximum number of DHCP users

Re: Connection conflicts and constant repair
What Interet Connection speed do you have?
Do you have QoS set up on the router?

Re: Connection conflicts and constant repair
Did you look for updated firmware for the router? Also, I'd reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure, sometimes this corrects odd-ball router issues.

Re: Connection conflicts and constant repair
My internet speed is maybe 384k per second. I think I have a QoS on the computer that is hardwired to the router. That's a program distributed by Linksys to watch over the connections correct?
EDIT: Yes I have the latest firmware upgrade. 1.02.0 Last edited by ViperGuy; 07-05-2007 at 03:17 PM. |

Re: Connection conflicts and constant repair
Just checked and uPnP is enabled.
Restored to factory settings with no luck. Yes, a QoS is available. Last edited by ViperGuy; 07-05-2007 at 08:22 PM. |

Re: Connection conflicts and constant repair
384kbit is a pretty slow connection, I'm not surprised you could be having issues.

Re: Connection conflicts and constant repair
Yes, it makes gaming quite difficult. I'm only in this house for the rest of summer though, so upgrading isn't necessary. You just think it's a slow connection problem?

[SOLVED] Connection conflicts and constant repair
Suprise suprise! I upgraded to Windows Vista Ultimate (don't worry I only paid 11 dollars through one of my school's software programs) and now I don't have to hit repair every time! Who'da thunk Windows did something right?
