I have a SpeedStrem 4200 connected to an Optus account. For the past 3 weeks we have been getting frequent connection dropouts. Usually during heavy throughput. This is what happens, all 3 of us are playing on Counter-Strike: Source connected to an on-line server. After a random amount of time (between 2 seconds and 3 hours) we loose connection. I check the connection via the SpeedStream web interface and there is no IP, DNS or gateway address. The connection is in "Connecting" status and will stay there for about 10mins. If i restart the modem the connection will still hang for about 10mins.
So i thought of an idea and enabled "Full Bride" on my Modem, i then configured my D-Link Di-624 to connect via a PPoE (dynamic) connection. It connects great. Infact the connection has improved, but during high throughput the connection will still drop out for 10mins. Will this still be due to the SpeedStream unable to handle the amount of data... I contacted Optus about the problem and as usual they wont take any action on there side. As my D-link has a better log system then the speedstream the d-link log system says "remote computer not responding" this is when its trying to reconnect. Also im getting a D-Link Wireless 108G Gaming Router DGL-4300 to replace the DI-624. Is this a good router. Can someone give me the pros and cons about this router...

Re: Connection Dropout!!
I'm guessing that this is an ISP issue. If you power cycle the modem, it should get a fresh start. I doubt you'll fix this one without the ISP working with you.

Re: Connection Dropout!!
Thats the problem tho, they wont owe up to it. I know its their side, I went to DSL report and did the line test right after one of the dropouts and there is no line instability. Every time i phone them and say "look my modem keeps loosing connection to the ISP, even after restarting the modem numerous times it still wont connect." And this was their reply. "I am sorry i cannot help you as there seems to be no current problem with our servers the lights are green across the board".
I know im binded to a contract and i have to pay a disconnection fee of $300 before my 1-2 years are up but i really want to get out of this mess and go with iinet or someone. Is there somthing i can do which will void the contract so i dont have to pay, because i have been having problems like this from the start.

You can try clearing your DNS cache before a gaming session to see if it helps. Maybe something like this'll help your cause a little. |

Re: Connection Dropout!!
Kalim, I'm not sure how changing a wireless component will help what appears to clearly be an ISP issue.
![]() I think this one is beyond our capability to assist with, since only the ISP can fix this issue.

Re: Connection Dropout!!
But our connection hasnt been performing to the contracts agreement. They also stated that will be upgraded to a 24mb/1mb line in March 07, this has still not happened, all work on the local exchange finished a month in advanced. This has now voided the contract right!!!!
But when i phone them up they say "You should of received a letter in the post about the upgrade" We didn't but they clearly stated it when we agreed to the contract. We even have a portfolio of our broadband plan that clearly describes the upgrade for our type of broadband deal.... They also said that Everyone will be Upgraded from the DSL Power Plan (2mb/256kbp currently got) to the DSL Direct Plan (24mb/1mb) once the customers nearest local exchange has been upgraded. *No extra charge will be added to the account after upgrade. (Im reading this out of the portfolio). What can be my next course of action?

Neither am I.
![]() It obviously looks like an ISP issue, but you'll have to fight it off with them. Most of them will stay arrogant for a while until you take it to the head. Then they start to budge and inform you of some more legal rights and options. I had a connection problem on one of my spare computers back in December with an ISP - I took them to court while they remained stubbornly defiant. Two days before the court meeting the Regional Head of Department phoned me up and offered me an incentive enterprise upgrade package for free (35/25) or that I could cancel my contract in the next 20 days with them (a 12 month $1000 contract 69 days into it). I choose the free upgrade at the old package price and no problem since then. ![]() |

Re: Connection Dropout!!
way to go Kalim, internet high-5.
we had a T1 at work that used to go dead. I would call they would say it's ok on our end must be your cisco router. Fortunately it was only once or twice a year and only for an hour. |
