Anyone have VDSL?
I want to get it. How much do you pay for it monthly (and how much was the modem?)
If any of you do have it, could you be kind enough to go here http://www.computers4sure.com/speed.asp And tell me your speed, please? |

Re: Anyone have VDSL?
I pay $45/mo for 15mbit/2mbit Verizon FiOS service.
Never heard the term VDSL before, but it appears pretty limited. Since fiber optic service works even out in the far suburbs where I am, I don't see VDSL getting much of a foothold. The potential of fiber service is actually much greater than the bandwidth I have, some areas have 50mbit service over fiber. I have trouble using my 15mbit service up. ![]()

Re: Anyone have VDSL?
I'm not impressed with that one speed link, it comes up totally in left field. I think the "off the chart" is true in this case.
![]() The first test is Conputers4Sure, the second is Speakeasy, and the third is DSLReports.

I also saw that it's a tiered service, meaning you can get it faster for a higher price. I'm guessing that's what you meant when you said 50mbps was available in some areas. Someone once told me they got 10mbps because they were the only cable subscriber in thier neighborhood, of course that can't be guaranteed to stay that way, and I'm still not sure whether he was being honest, my cable company said that's not possible, even if you are the only one, but others have told me it is. How are video web cams with that kind of bandwidth, absolute perfect seamless animation? Last edited by PC person : 06-23-2007 at 01:29 PM. |

Re: Anyone have VDSL?
You would indeed see them digging to install any fiber, or at least stringing it on the pole. Also, Verizon would have most certainly been trying to sign you up.
![]() There are some cable broadband accounts that get at least 20mbit downloads, they've been discussed here. For most practical uses, once you go past 10-15 mbit, you're exceeding the capability of many hosts.

Re: Anyone have VDSL?
I've done some large downloads from Microsoft at 1.8mbyte/sec, and I usually get about that speed downloading updates from Nero. Many other sites struggle to hit 500-600kbytes/sec.

Re: Anyone have VDSL?
Well, attempting to clock web pages is pretty difficult.
However, since downloads are nicely measured by the browser, it's much easier to get a speed for them.
