Netgear 824v2 kills Cisco VPN
I read a similar thread in networking support but no one gave an answer. Six hours with Netgear and my company's EIS had me activate/deactivate spi firewall, open ports, create reference static ips and still no luck. the vpn works when connected without this new router(latest firmware too!). any ideas?? thanks

Re: Netgear 824v2 kills Cisco VPN
First idea, check what your companies VPN IP subnet is. I have seen some company VPN subnets be the same as SOHO router default IP subnet cause problems.
Assume your Netgear base IP address is 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1? Once VPN is connected without the router, run an ipconfig from the command prompt and see what IP address your computer has been assigned by your company VPN server. If is is 192.168.0.1 or 1.1, change the IP address on your router to something like 192.167.8.1 and try and see if the VPN functions. Other problems I have seen with VPN's connecting properly have to do with firewalls. Temporarily turn off the firewall with the router connected and see what happens. Many times the VPN IP subnet needs to be added to the firewall trusted zone either in a soft firewall or within a router NAT or router firewall table. JamesO |

Re: Netgear 824v2 kills Cisco VPN
thanks for that. actually the netgear 824v2 router changed it's ip to 10.0.0.1 after several unsuccessful hours with netgear support i found that i no longer had wireless access though i could connect to the router. another few hours of support later...no success. will return router and card today and try a linksys srx400 and hope both issues are resolved.

Re: Netgear 824v2 kills Cisco VPN
Are you sure the router changed the IP and it was the not the VPN address that was 10.0.0.1??
Check out the Netgear FVS318v3 VPN router and Client software as an option. For what it is worth, I personally would not consider the Netgear version with the wireless and print server, too much firmware for Netgear or any router vendor to screw up in my opinion. I like to keep my hardware seperated for easy troubleshooting and repair. Do not use any combo boxes other thank wireless routers with switch ports. jfoj Last edited by JamesO; 04-09-2007 at 04:20 PM. |
