Need help connecting to net with D-Link 524 router
Hi, I have a cable modem and a D Link-524 router. The cable modem connects to the router with a CAT5 cable and the router connects to one of my computers with another CAT5 cable. My second computer is in another room and I am using a USB dongle (802.116 network standard Netgear) to receive wireless internet from my router.
I have followed the instructions from the manual however I still find myself unable to connect to the internet on either computers. Help would be much appreciated. |

Re: Need help connecting to net with D-Link 524 router
Let's start with the wired computer. Have you connected it directly to the cable modem and verified that it connects? Did you turn off power to the cable modem for 30 seconds after changing the connection from the computer to the router?
What is the make/model of the cable modem? Let's see this on the wired computer when it's all connected to the routerStart, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here.?

Re: Need help connecting to net with D-Link 524 router
Yes the computer connects to the modem fine. I turned off the power for 30 seconds when changing the connection to the router but the wired computer does not connect to the internet via the router using ethernet. Cable modem is um...motorola sb5100.
I'll get the results from cmd in a moment and i'll edit my post. |

It's 12 hours later, what do you consider a "moment"?

Re: Need help connecting to net with D-Link 524 router
Ok, now since you have a Motorola SurfBoard Modem im going to assume you have a cable company like Comcast, Roadrunner etc
Now the first thing you need to do his hardwire one of your computer's to the D-Link router and make sure that the port where you plug it into lights up on the router itself You will open a web browser, Mozilla firefox, Internet Explorer, etc On the address bar type in the router's default IP address which should be 192.168.0.1 and press enter or Go (also try it with http://192.168.0.1) Username: admin Password: (Password is blank dont type anything in it) Login or click on OK Click on Home on the topleft, Click on WAN on the far left Make sure Internet Connection type is: Dynamic IP DHCP Copy down the MAC address and then click on 'Clone MAC address' and see if any of the number's change Click on apply settings on the bottom and click on either reboot the device or just plain continue You should have internet now, if not, just powercycle the modem / router / computer; Plug the modem back in and wait for the lights to become stable; Plug the router back in and then check it again Hope it helps... |

Re: Need help connecting to net with D-Link 524 router
If you can't connect to the Internet on any computer through the router, it's probably the WAN interface that's the issue. Try logging into the router's configuration pages using 192.168.0.1 in IE and let's see a screen shot of the WAN status page.
