EEK! Belkin Surge Protector....

....Causing an issue I've never had before.
I bought >>>This<<< the other month but only got around to fitting it today, time has been that tight lol, anyway a bit of history to set the scene.

I am an original BB install, basically my line has it's own socket and I have never needed to use a filter to use my phones and PC at the same time, but today when I put my phones through this unit they were fighting with my PC connection and we couldn't make\receive calls, so ATM I have had to revert the phones back to going direct to the socket to be able to use the phones.
The bit I can't understand is no connections have been changed in any way except for plugging the phones through this protector.

Now the unit is by the TV with all the usual AV stuff plugged in, it's also where the house phone connects to the extension socket, now the PC is on the other side of the room, and it does not currently go through a surge protector, well the PC does have it's own socket similar to the above but without the AV stuff, and it's only the DSL that doesn't currently go through it, but everything else is protected, I know I need another one to protect the DSL but this one only has phone sockets on it, so I will be getting another one to cover this side of it to complete my protection, but that aside the main phone\DSL inlet is in between the 2 sides of the room with each side going into that via extension sockets, that is how all this is set up.

Any thoughts on why this is suddenly happening ? I really need to get the phones hooked up because my sky box uses the phone and is obviously not fully protected unless I put the phones through this so any ideas are welcomed.

Re: Belkin Surge Protector....

little confused but correct me if i am wrong.

dont put the phone line coming from your dsl modem into a surge protector. it will screw the signal up
so that phone line from your modem should only go directly into a wall or a splitter filter.

do you have direct tv, dish tv, fax, home alarm system? if so you can get splitter install from your dsl company. splitter install splits dsl signal away from your other phone jacks.

Cool Re: Belkin Surge Protector....

No the phone line should go into the surge protector via the phone in\out, sockets, the DSL does NOT currently go through a surge protector, I need to get another surge protector that has a DSL port on it to protect that, but thats another day, for now it's purely the phone lines.

And the only thing that changed when I put this surge protector up is that the phone was unplugged from it's extension socket and plugged through the surge protector, no other changes were done to the phone or PC they were left exactly as they were before I put the phone through the surge protector, hope that clears it up a bit lol.
