New Verizon Modem - only one port.
This is my first post. I've looked for a solution to my problem in a lot of old posts but if it's there I can't find it. There is so much knowledge here....
Here's what happened. Two weeks ago Verizon fiddled with my DSL connection and said they crossed some wires at the way station. Of course all I knew was that my internet connection was down. I spent a week and about 8 hours on the phone with Verizon attempting to correct the problem. They said it was my old modem and they sent me a new Westell 6110 modem and upgraded the DSL so the old modem really does not work. New modem only has one port. Still problems so Verizon sent a tech person to my house - he traced the problem back to the way station and fixed the wiring. We are now able to get two computers (Mac G4 and an IMac) back on line using the ethernet connections. However now, for the last week, I can't get my Airport Express wireless to work with the IMac. Here is my set up at present. Phone Jack in Wall - Westell Modem - LinkSys Router (BEFSR41 with 4 ports) - Port 1 to Mac G4 and Port 2 to IMac. What I want is the same as above except Port 2 of the Linksys Router to Airport Express so I can move the IMac to another room. This is what I had before Verizon messed around and it was working perfectly. I took the Airport Express back to the Apple Store and had them check - it is functioning perfectly. I have shut everything down and reset the modem and router numerous times. I have tried to use the Airport express as the only thing hooked up to the DSL (It always shows an amber flashing light which the book says means no internet connection). I have set and checked the system preferences numerous times. I have exhausted my limited knowledge and was hoping someone might have had a similar problem and may have a solution. Is there a modem with more "ports" that might support the Airport Express. Or maybe a moden that could replace the Airpost Express? Thanks for your consideration. Regards, Lynn |

Re: New Verizon Modem - only one port.
Well, if it they are giving you net through the modem then 1 port is no problem. The router on the other case probably is. Have you been through the configuration? (Input the router I.P. into the Adress bar and hit enter) it should give you option to use setup wizard which might be helpful, re-setting it up could work or manually connect it. Not sure about your router but for D-links it has the "status" tab, if yours has that too then great, if not try and find where it tells you if you're connected or not. Then there should be a connect/disconnect button. If none of that works it is possibly your wireless cards? I'm not too familiar with Airport Express and I'm sorry if I was of no help.

Re: New Verizon Modem - only one port.
Problem is solved. Had a long talk with Linksys and they walked me thru the steps to reconfigure my router as Duckster suggested. I use Safari on the Macintosh. http://192.168.1.1 gets one to the Linksys website and a lot choices. The tech walked me thru the process. Still wouldn't work. Fired up the Airport install disk and was directed to disable "sharing". Did this and all connections began working. Thanks again Duckster. Regards, Lynn
