Struggling With my new computer
Hello everyone. Thanks for listening to my problems. I appreciate any advice that you can offer.
I have a new computer. Dell 390. Two 20" Monitors and windows XP pro. Up till now I have always used sympatico for my internet. A friend has offered to host my e-mail now and has said it is all ready hooked up to my phone line and the computer is ready to go just hook up. I have hooked phone line to modem then e-cable from that to router and then on to tower. The DSLlight is on but I can't seem to get thnigs to work. Friend has said computer is configured and ready to go. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance for any pointers. |

Re: Struggling With my new computer
Well, there are several places you could go wrong. DOes your DSL require a name/password for you to connect? Did you program that into the router?
Did your "friend" actually connect at your house using the router and modem you're using? I'm missing the part about hosting your email, why in the world would you want to do that? Your ISP has an email server which should do the trick just fine.

Re: Struggling With my new computer
Thanks Johnwill. It was the modem. As soon as I switched it it started working fine.
One other question if I may? I have purchased a web cam and installed it. I can get the Microsoft life cam to work and seems to work fine but how do I set up with another person so that we can see each other while on the computer? Do I need a program or is it MSN ?? |

Re: Struggling With my new computer
You'll need an application on your machine. I know Yahoo Messenger does that, and I assume that MSN Messenger does it as well, but I've never used MSN.
