Wireless Problem :[

Whenever a person is on the wireless network and goes through heavy traffic(downloading files large images etc.) the router will restart itself, and for me, being on the wired end, need a stable connection with no dropouts. I find the event logs for these occurances, but can't seem to figure out how to fix them or what to do to stop these drops that happen quite frequently(5+times a day)

Re: Wireless Problem :[

Well you are going to have some difficulties sorting this out.

Your router is a combination Cable Modem & Wireless router.

So it will be difficult to divide the issues up to determine if the problem is a router issue or a cable modem issue!

I really do not like combination boxes for this reason.

I would first look for firmware upgrades to your router and install them.

Next, from the log info you posted, it appears that part of your problem is with the actual cable modem side. The Sync timing and UCD errors indicate that the modem is not able to acquire the forward cable channel.

But, why is this? Is the CPU in the router overwhelmed due to a high volume of traffic?? Or is there an instability in the CATV signal level? Is the Modem/Router overheating?

I would also look over the CATV connections to make sure they are tight as well.

Please post back the signal levels and the S/N level as well.

If I was me, I would replace everything with a Motorola SB5120 and a Linksys WRT54G. Again, I really do not like combined boxes and I find the router vendors do not have strength in the cable modem area like dedicated cable modem vendors. The Motorola and Linksys have really good track records and this would allow the trouble shooting to be divided.

Re: Wireless Problem :[

One question to consider: are you certain your router/modem is compatible with your ISP? Unfortunately, not all brands work with every cable provider.
