'Dodgy' Internet Connection

Good Evening, All @ Tech Support.

Firstly I have made a quick sweep of the forum but found nothing 'exactly' related to my problem. I appologise in advance if i'm double posting here.

My problem is this, For a few months i was happily enjoying typical 1meg ADSL speeds with every application on my computer. In the past few days my connection has been rather poor.

FTP and HTTP download speeds are as usual (110-130KBS), the problems are that pages often time out and i'm forever re-clicking links and using the refresh button. Also I am experiencing terrible connection problems with Game servers and P2P software. It is very hard to recieve any incoming connections. My network set-up has not chaged sinse there was no problems. I'm using a cable and wireless router, the adsl filter and some rj45 cabling. I have run multiple registry cleaners, anti-virus, anti-spyware etc. With no effect.

The only changed that has occured is that Tiscali have apparently moved me to a 'high peak-time usage server' and the problems seem to have arrised since then. Although i find it hard to believe this would be the problems as HTTP and FTP D/L speeds are fine. Also i have tried disabling my firewall, port-forwarding the router etc. So i'm a bit stuck

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as i crave some CS:S... Thanks in advance. Liam

Re: 'Dodgy' Internet Connection

I really don't like DSL...

The issue you may be having is a handshake issue between your modem and the ISP's switch center. If you're far from the center or a station then issues become more prevalent. Try visiting www.dslreports.com and running their tests and also visit www.dnsstuff.com to do some ping and trace tests. It'll help you determine where the problem is.

Short answer, get cable. ;)
