Trouble connecting to wireless broadband

I am trying to help a friend connect his notepad to his wireless broadband.
The computer is a HP pavillion 9000 with vista pre-installed. the wireless router is a livebox supplied by orange. the instructions that came with the router are for windows xp. I don't have any experience with vista but i managed to get it all running using the ethernet cable but i cannot get it to connect wireless. can anyone give me any advice?
