Re: i really really really need HELP!!!
What is your rated speed (the speed that your ISP says you are supposesd to have i.e. 15/2 or 30/5 Mbps)? It says your download speed is 14.31 Mbps, which is quite high; your upload speed is kind of low though.

Re: i really really really need HELP!!!
Assume you have DSL service?
What is your upload and download speed? www.speakeasy.net/speedtest Post info back here. What DSL rate are you paying for? Keep in mind, you rarely can get the full DSL rate you are paying for if there are any telephone line impairments! Try the speed test with the phone hung up, then make a call to someone and while on the phone run another speed test. Tell us the results. JamesO |

Re: i really really really need HELP!!!
im not sure what kind of dsl package i have, but i just know that we had the old fujistu modem and i started noticing are internet was slow (b/c the modem was 10 years old) but so my dad called verizon and they gave us the new actiontek modem...
with phone in use: Download Speed: 741 kbps (92.6 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 65 kbps (8.1 KB/sec transfer rate) without phone in use: Download Speed: 742 kbps (92.8 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 133 kbps (16.6 KB/sec transfer rate) please let me know what im looking at and what i can do to improve this!! the reason how this whole thing stated was that i got xbox live, and when i host games people complain on how much they "lag" due to a bad connection, when basically everyone else can host without having problems. thanks alot, Dustin |

Re: i really really really need HELP!!!
Sounds like you have the 128 kbps up / 768 kbps down service.
This is probably the bargin priced DSL service. DSL usually has slower upload speeds than cable anyway. A few things you can try. 1. Contact the DSL provider and see if they can offer an upgrade in speed. Sometimes on older accounts, they will upgrade the for free if you commit to an additional 1 year contract. But this depends on the provider. Also another limiting factor is how far from the telephone switching office you are located. Many times signal levels dictate your maximum speed. 2. Check with the DSL provider and see if you are configured for Fast Path vs. Interleave. Fast Path is the best option assuming you have good solid signal levels. 3. If cable service is available, then this might be a better option, usually they can provide high data rates, but it may cost more. Keep in mind DSL has its limits, usually the distance from the telephone switching office and the in home wiring. Any noise or excessive line loss and you are stuck with low data rates and intermittent Internet performance. JamesO |

Re: i really really really need HELP!!!
who would i talk to when i call verizon about what i am configured on? -- fast past or interleave.. should i talk to their tehcnical service or what?
if i get an upgrade in speed, do i get a new modem or what? basically, the modem is downstairs connected to my downstairs computer (in the same room as the fax so the phone cable is right next to the modem.. i have an ethernet ran directly upstairs to my xbox... thats the situation if that means anything |

Re: i really really really need HELP!!!
DSL support should be able answer all these questions, to include upgrade options and cost.
As for the modem, it should not need to be replaced. DSL support should??? be able to also confirm if the signal levels are in question. JamesO |
